Down 10-0 after one quarter at SoFi Stadium, the Washington Commanders scored 27 straight points to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 27-10 on October 5, 2025. Rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt had 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, his first 100-yard game in the NFL. Jayden Daniels returned from a two-game absence with a knee injury and went 15-of-26 for 231 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Deebo Samuel that closed out the game.
The Chargers held the ball for over 34 minutes and converted nine of 16 third downs but committed 10 penalties for 85 yards and turned the ball over twice in Washington territory — once on a Quentin Johnston fumble, once on a Justin Herbert interception. Justin Herbert was sacked four times, pushing his season total to 16 sacks allowed through five games. The win moved Washington to 3-2. Los Angeles fell to the same record.

Key Numbers from the Game
Croskey-Merritt finished with 150 scrimmage yards — 111 rushing and 39 receiving. He was the first Washington rookie running back to rush for 100 yards and two touchdowns in a single game since Antonio Gibson in Week 12 of the 2020 season, and the first Washington player to do it in any game since Brian Robinson Jr. in Week 2 of 2023. His 7.9 yards per carry was the second-best figure by any running back that week across the NFL.
Herbert was the Chargers’ leading rusher with 60 yards on four carries, including a 41-yard scramble in the first quarter that matched a career high. His four sacks taken brought his 2025 season total to 16 in five games, the most of any quarterback in the league at that point. With Joe Alt out with an ankle injury and Rashawn Slater already on injured reserve, Los Angeles started the game without their two best offensive linemen.
Keenan Allen caught his 1,000th career reception in the second quarter, becoming the fastest player in NFL history to reach that mark. He got there in his 159th career game, ahead of the previous record set by Marvin Harrison at 167 games. Allen finished with five catches for 58 yards.
Mike Sainristil’s interception at the Los Angeles 1-yard line in the fourth quarter ended the Chargers’ best chance to cut the deficit. It came after Teair Tart forced and recovered a Croskey-Merritt fumble on the first play of the quarter, giving Los Angeles first-and-goal. Herbert’s pass on the final down was tipped at the line and picked off by Sainristil in the end zone, ending the drive. The Commanders scored on the next possession to make it 27-10.
