Herbert went to the locker room after the injury and missed part of the next drive. Backup Trey Lance went 1-for-1 for 9 yards and ran four times for 4 yards during that stretch. Herbert returned with a cast, took only shotgun snaps from that point forward, and threw just eight passes after halftime. His end-zone interception to Kyu Blu Kelly was his 10th of the season. He had surgery on the fractured left metacarpal the following day.

Geno Smith completed 18 of 23 for 165 yards and two scores, but the Raiders were sacked five times for 40 yards lost and managed only 31 rushing yards on 18 carries under interim play-caller Greg Olson.

Los Angeles outgained Las Vegas 341 to 156 and held possession for over 11 more minutes. Tuli Tuipulotu had 2 of the Chargers’ 5 sacks and 4 tackles for loss. Maxx Crosby posted 2 sacks and 4 tackles for loss for the Raiders but drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the fourth quarter after hitting Herbert to the ground several seconds after a completed pass, a play that extended the Chargers’ final scoring drive. The Chargers improved to 4-0 in AFC West play with the win, their fourth consecutive over Las Vegas.
