Kickoff
Sunday afternoon, FOX broadcast
The game David Montgomery had waited nearly a decade for lasted three hours. He walked into Paycor Stadium as a Detroit Lions running back and left it having rushed for a touchdown, thrown for another on a wildcat snap, and helped Detroit to a 37–24 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He grew up two miles from that field. His older sister Kiki — paralyzed in a February 2024 car accident — watched from field level, her first game since the crash.
Detroit improved to 4–1, their fourth consecutive win. Cincinnati dropped to 2–3, their third straight loss since quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury on September 14 against Jacksonville. Over those three defeats, the Bengals were outscored 113–37.

Game Notes
Goff’s passer rating of 153.0 — on 19-of-23 passing, 258 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions — ranked among the cleaner performances of his season.
Montgomery’s wildcat touchdown pass came on second-and-goal at the Bengals’ 3-yard line, with Detroit leading 7–0. He took a direct snap, faked a run, and found tight end Brock Wright alone in the end zone. It was the second time in Montgomery’s seven-year career he had both a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game.
Gibbs and Montgomery scored touchdowns in the same game for the 14th time, tying the NFL record previously held by Emmitt Smith and Daryl Johnston of Dallas — the most such games by any running back duo in league history. The Lions pair goes by Sonic and Knuckles.
Kerby Joseph’s interception was his 20th career pick. He joined Hall of Famer Ed Reed as the only two safeties since 2000 to record 20 or more interceptions within their first four NFL seasons.
Detroit’s three interceptions directly produced 14 points. Robertson’s pick at the Cincinnati 19-yard line set up the wildcat scoring drive four plays later. The Lions’ turnover margin on the day was plus-two.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s 100-yard receiving game moved him past Brett Perriman into fourth place on Detroit’s all-time receiving yards list. He finished the afternoon at 5,258 career yards.
Sam LaPorta’s touchdown reception — a 10-yard catch in which he flipped over cornerback Dax Hill to reach the end zone — was his 18th career scoring reception, fourth-most by any tight end in Lions franchise history.
Jack Fox placed four of his five punts inside the Cincinnati 10-yard line, three of them before halftime. The Bengals did not start a drive outside their own 30-yard line until five minutes remained in the fourth quarter.
Ja’Marr Chase’s 15-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter had a 12.5% completion probability per NFL Next Gen Stats — the lowest recorded for a touchdown pass during the 2025 season at that point. Chase had 0.6 yards of separation from cornerback Rock Ya-Sin and was 0.2 yards from the sideline when the ball arrived. It ended a scoreless run that had stretched across 20 consecutive Cincinnati possessions.
Trey Hendrickson’s two sacks included a strip sack of Goff recovered by the Bengals. The forced fumble was the 15th of Hendrickson’s career. Myles Murphy and Joseph Ossai each added a sack for Cincinnati, which finished with four sacks and seven quarterback hits on Goff.
Jake Browning’s three touchdown passes all came in the fourth quarter, when the game had already moved past reach. He finished with eight interceptions across 14 quarters of play since replacing Burrow. His 16 career touchdown passes tied David Klingler for ninth on the Bengals’ all-time list.
Injuries: Detroit WR Kalif Raymond left in the first quarter with a neck injury sustained on a punt return and did not return. LT Taylor Decker was inactive with a shoulder injury. Bengals QB Joe Burrow remained out with the toe injury suffered September 14.

Detroit held the ball for 34:21. Fox’s four punts inside the Cincinnati 10 kept the Bengals hemmed in for three quarters. The Lions scored 14 points off turnovers and gave up one back — a fumble by Goff that the Bengals recovered but could not convert. When Derrick Barnes dragged Browning to the ground in his own end zone with 1:49 remaining, Cincinnati had clawed from 28–3 to 35–24, and none of it was enough. The final score was 37–24. Montgomery carried 18 times. He knew the ground he was running on.
